Best Seat In The House. by ~Reidsan:iconReidsan:

I looked at the empty seat
in the front row
that they had set aside for me.
there was a piece of paper on it
and on the paper was the word "reserved"

I thought of your face
and said to myself,

yes,
I am.

There's always a danger of the last line or two in a short poem, such as this, into a punch line. But in your skillful hands, you avoided this pitfall and instead managed to suprise the reader with the unexpected simplicity of the "answer", which at the same time, causes the reader to spend additional time contemplating the meaning, because of its simplicity. Very Zen and Catch 22 and interesting. Nice to see some work on here from you again. I really enjoy reading your writing. You have a unique and interesting voice and perspective.

I tend to go for a "punch line" of sorts - I want to make the point and set the reader on the train of thought that I was intending the whole time. It also seems to help them remember and want to read it again, and it's often the first thing I come up with. In this one I didn't though...it's a simple answer, and a thought that made me smile. I thought it was an experience worth putting into a poem because it seemed simple and sweet. And maybe I was right :)

You're always so kind and in-depth in your comments about my work, I'm glad you like it & appreciate the feedback a lot.
